My approach is a culmination of over twenty years of personal experience, study, research, training and practice in psychotherapy, counselling, psychology, and neuroscience. My formal training includes a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling from The Tivoli Institute and a PhD in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin. I have conducted postdoctoral research in Neuroscience in the USA and worked as a Lecturer in Psychology at Northumbria University, Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, and The Open University. In addition to working in private practice, I have also provided psychotherapy and counselling at NUI Galway Student Counselling Service.
I am an accredited Member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and a Chartered Psychologist of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). I follow the IACP’s Code of Ethics and Practice for Counsellors/Psychotherapists and the PSI’s Code of Professional Ethics. I attend regular supervision with an experienced and accredited supervisor. I am constantly developing my skills through further training and continuous professional development workshops. My work is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
